Erosion & Dredging
UPDATE
The Erosion Sub-Committee has completed its mandate. They have submitted meeting minutes, two interim reports, and a final recommendation to the Board.
Information will be presented to the General Membership at the 2024 AGM with votes for next steps on managing legal and illegal dredging.
Lakefront and riverbank erosion is a concern for all Port Albert residents, cottagers and visitors, including:
- safety and value of our property
- access to the river and lake for recreation
- health of the river ecosystem
- quality and safety of lake water
- preserving access for future generations
The Erosion Sub-Committee mandate included the following steps:
- Review past reports and previous enquires to the MNR, MVCA, and ACW regarding dredging and erosion management.
- Examine where past efforts have failed or succeeded.
- Research solutions or projects from other communities facing similar challenges.
- Share information through a series of reports to the Board.
- Provide recommendations and potential next steps to be presented to the General Membership for vote.
